Accumulated Depletion

Accumulated depletion is the cumulative amount of depletion expense relating to the use of a natural resource. The account of accumulated depletion has a credit balance and it is usually reported by being paired with natural resource asset on the company’s statement of financial position as a contra asset. The net effect of the natural resource asset and accumulated depletion appears on the company’s statement of financial position.
